GREAT CREWS FINISH FIRST AT THE 2005 HEAD OF THE CHARLES REGATTA
The all new Vespoli V1 in a dominating performance
Congratulations!!!!! For the first time in over 20 years the Men's Championship
Eight was won by a collegiate crew. The Princeton Heavyweight Varsity powered
their way to an impressive 1st place finish in the Men's Champ 8+
in a V1 8+ with wings. Princeton's Women's varsity was the first collegiate
crew in the Women's Champ eight. They raced in a V1 with conventional
riggers and finished second only to the US National Team.
Yale, the 2005 National Collegiate Lightweight Champions continued their mastery
in their V1 8+ wing eight by finishing as the first
collegiate crew in the Championship Light men's eight.
Congratulations also go out to the Penn AC Master's 8 (40+) Champions.
Their DXL was damaged by another trailer on the way into the regatta venue on
Friday. They borrowed University of Delaware's V1 8 and went
out and won their race!
On Sunday, the Youth Crews from the west coast had great races. The Marin Rowing
Association boys took their first row in their new V1 8+ the
day before. The crew came off the water all smiling and one of the boy's remarked,
this boat is SO SAVAGE! Marin boys finished second among
all junior boys' eights (No. Virginia combo crew finished ahead in
a '01 Millennium). The Green Lake Junior girls from Seattle finished first among
all junior girls' eights. They couldn't bring their V1 east but won anyway in
a borrowed Millennium. A winged M2 8 rowed by Norwalk(CT) Maritime took a close
second while the Marin girls took the brand new V1-S for it's inaugural row
and except for a buoy violation this crew would have placed among the top five
junior eights. The top high school boys and girls crews in the Youth event crews,
St John's from Shrewsbury, MA and Mount St. Joe's from Philadelphia were also
rowing Vespoli M2 shells.
Congratulations go out to all the other HOCR winners racing in Vespoli boats.
Of particular note is defending NCAA Div III Trinity College, Hartford. They
won the Women's Collegiate 8 in their M2. They are eagerly
awaiting the delivery of their new V1 for next week's Princeton Chase, so watch
out!
The all-new Vespoli V1, in its first racing season, has again laid claim to the
title, "World's fastest racing shell"! The state-of-the-art design is
fast, fast, fast with great stability and durability. Never more evident than
this past weekend at the world's biggest regatta!!!!
