Boat Buying Guide

Let’s Get Started!

One of the first questions we are often asked is, “how much does an eight or a four cost.” A figure is usually necessary if you need to raise the funds or have a budget in mind. Here’s some questions to keep in mind:

  • What size boat are you interested in? (8, 4, 2x, 1x)
  • Who is the boat going to be used by the most? Male, Female, both?
  • Will your boat be used for training, racing or both?
  • If being used primarily for racing, who will be using it?
  • How much use will it get? Will the boat need to be a workhorse and take a lot of abuse from novice crews and coxswains?
  • What’s the average weight of the crew?
  • How long do you plan on keeping the boat? Five years? Ten?

Getting Your Boat Home

Shipping and delivery

Most of our high school programs rely on Vespoli for the delivery of their boats and costs are dependent on the location from our factory in New Haven, CT. We try to be as efficient as possible, often combining deliveries on one trailer. We also attend many of the major rowing events and regattas and can often arrange for boat pick-up at the event. To save delivery costs, some coaches are willing to make the trek to New Haven. We welcome you to come visit and encourage you to arrange a tour of our facilities while you are here.

Production time

On average, it takes 4-6 weeks from start to finish to build our boats. While we rely on technology and computerization, everything is hand-made in a sense. Our boats are a labor of love, and most of the cost of building our boats is for labor. We put 160 hours into building an eight. That’s not including making the riggers and assembling the other components.

Payment

For new organizations, we do require setting up an account with Vespoli, a credit application and pre-established payment plan. For returning schools, account information is usually retained and will just need to be confirmed/updated.

Financing

Many programs take advantage of our Fleet Financing program, which are 4 to 7-year programs tailored to your boathouse and budget. We calculate a predictable annual budget amount. Fleet financing can often save tens of thousands of dollars over the course of five years. We also offer a Rent-to-Own program.

Service

Vespoli offers full lifecycle support for your boat from the moment you buy it. Regatta service, factory-based repair, or factory-based refurbishment — we have you covered.

Parts & Equipment Store

We have an online retail store where parts can easily be ordered when needed.

Branding

We know rowers are proud of the programs they row for. For colleges and universities, a branded boat can help in creating awareness of a program and aid in recruitment. Ask how we can custom-finish your new boat.

Boat Name

We can provide a custom-decal, apply it to your new boat, and it will be all set for the christening party.
